Your Information On The Orlando Airport

By Chris Linch

Approximately 6.8 miles from the Orlando central business district is the largest airport in the state of Florida, the Orlando International Airport. Also referred to as MCO, this massive airport is located in Orange County. In 2008, MCO was ranked as the 22nd busiest airport in the world by the Airports Council International. This was due to serving 35,622,252 passengers in that same year.

Serving as a hub for the operations center and corporate headquarters of AirTran Airways, MCO has four main passenger terminals. A focus city of Southwest Airlines and JetBlue Airways, MCO is also known as the Orlando International Airport. Having a total of 97 gates, many parking options are available near the terminals. Depending on your length of stay at the airport, terminal topside parking and two terminal parking garages are available as well as other options.

Short-term passenger pick-up parking is located in the Cell Phone Lot for free of charge. Parking is allowed in the lot while you wait for a phone call from passengers. You may then locate the passengers ready for pick-up at the curbside baggage claim area.

Located further from the terminals than the Terminal Parking Garages, the Satellite Parking lots have free transports. Airport shuttle service provides transportation for passengers from the satellite parking lots to the main terminal areas. For the first three hour of parking the cost is $4. For stays exceeding this time period, a daily $10-per-24-hour rate is charged. Parking in the Satellite lots for less than ten minutes is free of charge. Parking for 120 days is permitted in the Satellite lots.

Located within easy walking distance to the main terminals, the Terminal parking garages offer cover for all 9.300 parking spaces. Rates for parking in the these lots are $1 for every twenty minutes with a maximum daily fee of $17. However, a 40 minute free parking grace period is allowed for short-term parking. Parking is prohibited for stays exceeding 60 days.

Offering free shuttle services, most offsite parking facilities are an option for those wishing to save a little money when traveling through the Orlando International Airport. Many options are available for those looking for offsite parking and sites can range in price as low as a $4.50 daily rate. Since most offsite parking sites are located close-by, this option is also available for passengers who can't find parking at the Airport. - 29977
