How to Find Some Florida Vacation Deals

By Gail Nettles

Could you put a little bit time and effort into searching for ways to stretch your vacation dollars? If you find this interesting, you'll be surprised at some of the great Florida vacation deals that can be found, both on and off the web.

Here are some hints for finding the best of the Florida vacation deals around.

Before You Go Further...

Think about your dates. Are you somewhat open or are there certain dates that you must work your vacation around? If consider these dates before you start your research, you will be winnowing down all the information that is out there, and you will find more targeted and beneficial deals.

Something to think about; July through September are hot, humid and possibly have hurricanes here in the Sunshine State. On the other hand, because of this, some of the very best vacation deals can be located for August and September. If your vacation budget is a serious consideration, you may want to consider these months.

On the flip side, the months from Christmas through around March is the most pricey time of the year, when people flock to Florida from the frozen northern states!

Hint #1

Once you know your Florida holiday dates then you ought to start with a visit to your local travel agent where you might discover some great packages. Yes, even in this day and age, not all Florida vacation destinations have an online presence, especially those in the Florida Panhandle!

You can combine both offline and online worlds by getting your brochures and using them as a baseline for your online searching.

Hint #2

Now it's time for web surfing. Find some of the sites of the online travel agencies that book Florida vacations, for their most up-to-the-minute prices. There will sometimes be "web only" packages on sites.

Once you have located a deal that intrigues you then call the agency and make them an offer for the vacation package. You'd probably be surprised at how many of them are willing to offer a 'ready to buy' customer a better deal, than potentially lose them to a competitor who will. Even more so if it's for the Florida "slow season" where bookings are a wee bit on the lean side.

Tip #3

Magazines and newspapers are wonderful way to track down current Florida vacation deals. When a magazine writes an article on a holiday location, they typically have a number of travel companies advertising discounts and deals around the feature.

But here's an idea you may not realize; when you look at those advertisements (usually for the most costly seasons of the year), check if booking a trip a couple of weeks earlier or later makes a difference.

For example, if there was a story about Disney in the summer, bear this in mind -- the difference in resort prices between the middle of August against the end of August can be hundreds of dollars. You could save plenty of money by moving your getaway dates back a few weeks, or even days!
